Overhead Crane for Workshop in Peru: Solutions for Multiple Working Areas

02 nov, 2026 Overhead Crane for Workshop in Peru watermarked 3

This overhead crane for workshop project involved six cranes for different working areas within a customer’s facility in Peru. Because each area had different supporting conditions, installation space, and operating requirements, KUANGSHAN CRANE developed separate crane and supporting-structure solutions for each location.

Projectachtergrond

The Peruvian customer initially planned to add lifting equipment to its workshop and requested two 5-ton single-girder overhead cranes and one 1-ton single-girder overhead crane. The order was subsequently expanded to six cranes with rated lifting capacities of 1, 2, and 5 tons.

As the scope of the order expanded, the equipment and supporting structures required at each installation location were gradually clarified. The final crane configuration was as follows:

Overhead Crane for Workshop Areas with Different Site Conditions

Selecting an overhead crane for workshop use requires a clear understanding of the lifting loads, working coverage, existing supporting structures, and planned operating arrangements.

When exact dimensions are not yet available, the customer can first provide workshop drawings and site photographs. KUANGSHAN CRANE can then advise which additional measurements are required. The solutions for the different areas in this project were developed step by step based on these conditions.

Using Existing Steel Corbels for a 1-Ton Overhead Crane

The customer’s workshop already had steel corbels and wanted to use them to support a 1-ton overhead crane. Determining the dimensions of the crane and its runway beams required more than the distance between the corbels. The supporting arrangements on both sides, the corbel elevations, and the available overhead space also had to be confirmed.

The customer provided corbel spacing measurements of 4.42 m and 3.92 m. KUANGSHAN CRANE then requested drawings of the corbels and related supporting structures to confirm the rail installation positions and rail center distance.

We also requested that the crane drawing clearly indicate the main-girder depth so that the equipment arrangement could be checked against the available space. Runway beams were subsequently added to the 1-ton crane package, allowing the customer to install the crane on the existing corbels.

Adjusting the Crane and Supporting Structure to the Customer’s Selection

Another installation area already had columns and a runway beam on the right-hand side. The customer required two cranes with a span of 10 m and rated lifting capacities of 1 and 2 tons.

Where supporting structures are available on only one side, the arrangement on the opposite side depends on the crane type selected by the customer. It is therefore necessary to determine how that side will travel and whether additional supporting structures are required.

KUANGSHAN CRANE initially recommended a semi-gantry crane, which would have made excellent use of the customer’s single-side girder structure. However, the customer later requested that more space be left below for people and forklifts to pass through, so we modified the two units to LDC single-girder overhead cranes and installed the necessary supports on the other side to enable operation at a higher elevation.

The customer’s existing right-hand structure was retained. For the left-hand side, KUANGSHAN CRANE supplied eight columns, a total of 42 m of runway beams, braces, end stops, anchor bolts, and connection accessories. Crane rails and power supply systems were also included.

The drawings below show the change in crane type and the arrangement of the newly added left-hand supporting structure.

Two Overhead Cranes Sharing a Single Track, Equipped with Anti-Collision and Power Supply Systems

The customer plans to operate two 5-metric-ton overhead cranes, each with a span of 27.6 meters, on the same track. In response to this arrangement, KUANGSHAN CRANE has given further consideration to anti-collision requirements when the cranes approach each other, as well as the individual power supply configurations for each crane.

We equipped the overhead cranes with infrared anti-collision devices and installed sufficient pantographs along the 95-meter shared power line to meet the power requirements of both units, ensuring that each overhead crane can draw power from the shared line.

A Double-Girder Overhead Crane for a Wider Workshop Area

Another work area at the customer’s site requires a 5-metric-ton overhead crane, which must span a relatively wide section of the factory. To determine the crane’s dimensions, in addition to the lifting capacity, we need to know the planned installation location, the support layout on both sides, and the available headroom.

We requested that the client provide CAD drawings of the factory and clearly define the equipment’s operating area. Upon learning that the equipment would be used in the area between axes 16 and 21, KUANGSHAN CRANE calculated the span and lifting height accordingly. We ultimately finalized a European-style hoist double-girder overhead crane solution with a span of 36.915 meters and a maximum lifting height of 9 meters, and also provided the running rails and power supply facilities.

Production and Grouped Shipment

Once each overhead crane for workshop use and its supporting requirements had been confirmed, KUANGSHAN CRANE began manufacturing the six cranes and associated steel structures.

The different solutions also required corresponding shipping arrangements. Some long main girders were manufactured in sections. The platform and handrails of the 36.915 m-span, 5-ton European-style double-girder overhead crane used detachable connections, allowing them to be disassembled for container loading.

Before shipment, KUANGSHAN CRANE wrapped the crane components for protection and packed selected accessories in wooden cases. These items were loaded into containers together with the sectional main girders and other long components.

The columns, runway beams, and connection accessories supplied for the two 10 m-span cranes were shipped with the equipment.

The six cranes were shipped in two groups. The first group of three single-girder overhead cranes was loaded on November 15, 2025, while the remaining three cranes were loaded on December 2.

A total of three 40-foot open-top containers were used. The equipment was shipped from Qingdao to the Port of Callao, Peru.

On-Site Crane Erection and Wiring Guidance

The 5-ton cranes have been erected in the customer’s workshop. KUANGSHAN CRANE provided the relevant wiring guidance to assist the customer with the on-site installation.

How to Select an Overhead Crane for Workshop Areas

This overhead crane for workshop project demonstrates that different working areas within the same facility do not necessarily require identical crane configurations.

KUANGSHAN CRANE can develop solutions according to the actual conditions in each working area and adjust the equipment and supporting structures as the customer’s requirements evolve, allowing the final crane selection to be clarified step by step.

If you are planning to add an overhead crane for workshop operations but are unsure which crane type to select or which dimensions need to be measured, please contact us.

We can help you organize the required site information, compare different crane types, and identify a suitable solution for each working area. Existing facilities can be reused wherever practical, while any missing structures and components can also be supplied as part of the project.
