Forging Overhead Crane: Reliable Lifting Equipment for Heavy-Duty Forging Workshops

Forging overhead crane is a heavy-duty overhead lifting crane designed for forging workshops. It is mainly used for lifting, load buffering, and turning forged workpieces during the forging process, and is one of the primary pieces of lifting equipment in forging shops.

Under actual operating conditions, the rated working load of a forging overhead crane is defined as the total weight of the turning device and the maximum forged workpiece being lifted. Its design focuses on meeting the requirements of forging operations characterized by high loads, high impact forces, and high operating frequency.

Three-Girder Four-Rail Double-Trolley Forging Overhead Crane

This is a widely used structural configuration with the following characteristics:

  • Three-girder, four-rail structure
  • The main and auxiliary hoisting mechanisms are installed on separate main and auxiliary trolleys
  • The distance between the main hook and auxiliary hook can be adjusted according to process requirements
  • Suitable for working conditions where the longitudinal direction of the forged workpiece is parallel to the workshop rails

This structural configuration effectively meets the requirements for stable lifting and turning of large forged workpieces during forging operations.

Double-Girder Double-Rail Single-Trolley Forging Overhead Crane

This configuration features a compact structure with the following characteristics:

  • Double-girder, double-rail structure
  • The main and auxiliary hoisting mechanisms are installed on the same trolley
  • Suitable for forging conditions where the axis of the forged workpiece is arranged perpendicular to the workshop rails

While meeting forging process requirements, this structure is beneficial for optimizing equipment layout and space utilization.

KUANGSHAN Forging Overhead Crane Technical Requirements

The design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing of the forging overhead crane comply with the national industry standard, JB/T 7688.3-2008, 《Forging Crane》 and meet the following technical requirements.

General Requirements

  • The rated working load is the total weight of the turning device and the maximum forged workpiece being lifted
  • The main and auxiliary trolleys normally operate in coordination, but are also allowed to lift loads independently
  • The static load test load of the crane is 1.4 times the rated working load
  • The dynamic load test load of the crane is 1.2 times the rated working load

After testing, the following requirements shall be met:

  • No cracks or permanent deformation in major load-bearing structural components
  • No loosening or damage at connection points
  • Braking systems and safety devices operate sensitively and reliably

Hoisting Mechanism Load Buffering and Brake-Release Device (Main Trolley)

  • A dedicated load buffering and brake-release device is provided
  • The materials, spring types, and mechanical properties of the buffering device comply with relevant national standards
  • When the load exceeds 1.1 times the rated lifting capacity, the brake is released and the hoisting mechanism moves in the downward direction

Hook Devices

Main Hook Assembly: The hook material meets national standard requirements for mechanical properties. An anti-unhooking device is provided at the hook throat, and a replaceable wear-resistant hook liner is installed at the hook opening.

Auxiliary Hook Assembly: Equipped with a load buffering device. The hook material and its mechanical properties are the same as those of the main hook.

Turning Device

The turning device is an important process component of the forging crane. Its main technical requirements include:

  • Wear-resistant bushings are provided between the turning device and the hook suspension shaft
  • A buffering device is installed
  • The mechanical properties of the turning device frame, sprockets, and chains comply with relevant national standards
  • The turning mechanism is equipped with a torque-limiting protection device

Operator's Cab

  • The operator's cab is equipped with thermal insulation
  • The cab is securely and reliably connected to the crane
  • Buffering elements are provided at the connection points

Assembly Requirements

  • Springs of the hoisting mechanism buffering device have consistent performance, and the preload meets specified requirements
  • All connection points operate flexibly after adjustment
  • The turning device chain meshes properly with the sprockets
  • The torque-limiting device is adjusted to the specified value

Safety Requirements

  • The main hoisting mechanism is equipped with a brake-release protection device to prevent overloading
  • The turning mechanism is equipped with torque-limiting protection
  • Lifting or turning of forged workpieces is prohibited when the anvil of the forging equipment has not left the workpiece

Lubrication Requirements

  • Lubricating grease shall be applied to all chain pin joints
  • Other lubrication requirements shall comply with JB/T 7688.1–2008
